Happy New Year 2023
As we say goodbye to 2022, The Book Whisperers reflect on the first 14 months of our social enterprise.
The Book Whisperers officially started on 1st October 2021 - and the last 14 months have been filled to the brim. We have raised funds, taken on staff, become a Living Wage employer, joined the Midlothian Green Pledge and linked up with numerous organisations. We have organised and run a summer Wonderland Story & Book Festival encouraging children and adults to read more. We have set up our community writers & authors platform to support people on every step of their writing journey. Other achievements this year have included being selected to be on the RBS Accelerator programme, becoming a Women Enterprise Scotland Ambassador, being the Creative Informatics Resident Entrepreneur, and we have won the Creative Wellbeing contract with Education Scotland & Creative Scotland. We have worked with primary schools, special needs schools, high schools and community groups, and provided training in all aspects of creative writing and publishing. What is more, we have published several books - Langdimania by Lach, Wolf Craigs by Gwen Gates Parker, Malaky Midge by Lea Taylor, From The Burgh and Beyond by The Burgh Blatherers, and Once Upon Another Time by the members of our Facebook Group. Alongside all of that, we have partnered with various amazing organisations and also helped numerous people start, develop and market their writing - with services from writing coaching, editing, ghostwriting, typesetting, cover design and assisted self-publishing.
This coming year - in 2023 - we have even more plans to develop. We are going to grow our platform and listen to our members - helping support their writing journeys every step of the way. We have plans to help our members monetise their expertise by providing a sister platform - The Book Whisperers Academy - where author members can create online courses to sell to the wider world. We plan to take on more staff to help with our growing membership, and also recruit from our author members to work on contracts with clients in ghostwriting and assisted memoir writing.
